Band is a ‘performance based’ class according to the Florida Department of Education. Besides teaching students how to play an instrument and read music, our goal is to give students the experience of performing before an audience, and to teach them the practice habits and mental preparation needed to perform. All students will participate in several performances throughout the year. As students get more advanced they have an opportunity to join different ensembles. Please look below at the different ensembles we have at CSMS.
The Beginning Band class is a performance based class according the the Florida Department of Education. Students in Beginning Band learn how to read music and how to play an instrument. During the first month of school students get opportunities to try all of the different instruments they can choose from in the band. After trying each instrument the students select which instrument they want to dedicate the school year to learning. The Beginning Band typically has about 3 performances each year that are a part of the students grade in the class. Beginning Band is a year round elective.
